Real Life 101
Real Life 101 Scholarship
Real Life 101 has awarded over 150 scholarships since its inception. In 2005 the focus of a the program changed to the “at-risk African American male.”
CRITERIA
Criterion for “at-risk” is the high school senior that is not a high achiever, who is classified as “the average student.” We seek young men that have a strong desire to attend an institution of higher learning but face mounting challenges, financial and otherwise, as graduation from high school approaches. Counselors from each high school, who interact with the students on a regular basis, are asked to select the students we should consider for the scholarship. Each applicant is asked to complete an application and submit a 1,000 word essay.
Administrators at each school oversee the scholarship selection process. The administrators / counselors are responsible for application distribution, collection and processing. The scholarships are awarded based on merit and need; GPA is not a requirement.
ELIGIBILITY
The recipient must be enrolled full time at the college or university of his choice. Proof of enrollment from the college or university is required before monies are dispersed.
All scholarship monies are made payable to the college or university and applied to the recipient’s account. If the recipient is unable to complete his studies, the remaining monies are returned to the Real Life 101 Scholarship Fund. Monies are not given directly to the recipient.
